Interview with Huseyin OZKAN
After this long stop, we are releasing an interview with a really talented artist Huseyin Ozkan.
He is an Illustrator, and Animation Student and in this interview he will give an inside look to his life and jobs.
Hello Scarletbits readers, it has been long time to write a post, but I’m back with an interview with a great Turkish designer. Hope you Enjoy!

You can check OZKAN works from his website or you can contact him by e-mail.
The Interview:
Hello Huseyin! To get started, tell us about yourself, where you were born and how old are you ?
I’m 21 and living in Turkey. I have been studying fine arts since high school. Right now I am studying animation at Anadolu University in Eskisehir/ Turkey in Animation department.
You are really young, I wonder how can you have that much experience. School? University? or Self-Teaching?
Actually school didn’t contribute much but the time and opportunities given by my school for me to study and improve myself were quite important for me and I am doing my best to benefit from these as much as possible.
Do you have anyone in your mind that is an idol for you or someone that you wish to be like in terms of work?
As my major is animation, I am crazy for Gobelins Animation School in France. There are lots of artists that I follow; Kent Williams, Enki Bilal, Seung Kim and Ashley Wood are the ones I most adore.
Can you tell Us about the creative process to your artworks?
I definitely do a lot of trials and sketches on paper before transferring my work to the computer. After I work on clarity and neatness again on paper. Then I start to work on and create the composition. My favorite part is the editing on the computer. Like I said, I work on paper first, I don’t want to loose contact with the traditional concept. While coloring I pay attention to the color selection that will reflect the atmosphere and feeling I want to create.
You have a really interesting and amazing style. Can you tell Us about your first job experience?
My first experience was a painting on the wall and I really enjoyed it. I was also working on oil painting at that time.
Do you prefer to work as freelance or to be the office worker with 9 to 5 hours?
Who doesn’t like to work freelance? Eventually my favorite working place is my home; I think I can create better works where I don’t have any pressure on me.
Do you have new projects and plans?
Yes, I am working on a personal animation movie right now. Animation part is mostly done but I am still working on some coloring on that work. What I want most is to create and work on an animation project which will affect people when they watch.
Can you give some tips for other young artists that are reading this, some websites to follow, books, etc.?
It is possible to find valuable and beneficial information and observations on web pages like conceptart.org – deviantart.com – behance.net. One should read and research more, keep the expectations high and never give up. (How cliché I am, haha)
Thank you so much for this interview, we really enjoyed meeting with you. Do you want to add some last words?
If I could be a different artist, I would definitely choose Tom Waits.

Several of these pics look disturbingly close to other artist’s work.
Specifically, the first image looks a lot like one of the panels showing Loki in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, in the Kindly Ones arc.
The fifth image looks like it was copied almost exactly from another issue of Sandman.
Tsk tsk.
