After discussing the different possibilities with AK, it can be useful to see the different percentages on the different parts of the hand so that we can make conclusions. I advise you to check the table carefully before we go on with the deeper analysis. It is an effective way to learn poker when you know exactly some of the most important percentages (situations which happen often in poker) by heart.

As you can see, the first four hands are the exact hands we had reviewed previously (we did not know what the opponent had in the second part of the AK analysis so once I analyze ♠K♠Q and once ♠8♠7). It does not change the hand percentages significantly if your opponent had AQ or KQ because he will have to hit the 3 outs anyway. The difference comes from the turn when the AQ suited picks up a backdoor spade draw which increases his chances by 20%. The implied odds are also very good in this case, because if the river were another spade, then it would be runner-runner flush and it is hard to put the opponent on the flush. Realize how easy it is to learn poker when you can remember some of these situations and use them in practice when you will play the next time.

It is interesting to see that the preflop AK is only 58%-41% up versus 78 suited (if the 78 were not suited the percentages would be 62%-38% for AK). And even when the flop comes with an ace but the 78 has gutshot straight- and a flush draw as well, the pair of aces is only 53% in favor. The ♠8♠7 loses a lot of value when it misses on the turn and there is no reason to call another big bet, because the chances have dropped roughly 20% with only the river card left.
The following examples show AK vs. pocket pairs. As you see all pairs are better than unpaired hands. The percentages are also almost the same, because AK needs an A or a K to improve and then all pairs fall back quite the same against aces. You can also see the percentage changes when the pocket pairs hit. As the table shows, with deep stacks it is a great argument to keep the pot small and not risk your whole stack in doubtful situations.
Even a 54 would have 23% against AK on the flop and for sure if a 2 comes on the river it would be almost impossible to put the opponent on 54 so the implied odds would make a call reasonable on the flop with 54 (assuming that your opponent does not have the highest skills and you can stack him on the later streets).
As you can see, learning poker online is not only playing but going into detailed analysis during the hand as well. This way you know in every single spot what the consequences of every single call, bet or raise are, if you had a good read on your opponent and could make a good guess on what he has.
